Talia ran, ran as far as she could in the city until she wasn’t in the city anymore. She didn’t bother taking a cab, train, or any transportation other than her own two legs. Even without her fur on, it still felt good to just run. To stretch out her legs until they were sore and beginning to cramp, and then to push them farther. The city was almost quiet, save for a few night owls out and about, so she had little to worry about disturbing people.
She wore a simple black shirt and a black pair of jeans with some comfortable black running shoes. She had a backpack slung across her shoulders, tightened down so it didn’t jostle on her back too much as she moved. The sky above was crystal clear, but the stars were hardly visible because of the light pollution of the sleeping city. It saddened her a bit, but the full moon’s presence made up for that. It elated her, touched her with its power. Talia felt alive beneath the full moon’s watchful gaze.
At the edge of the city, she paused. There was an abandoned parking lot, empty, save for a lone light post that cast its light only on one-half of the parking lot. Talia veered her course, and entered the darkness, her eyes adjusting easily to the dimness. She dropped her bag beside some bushes, and after a quick glance around to ensure her solitude, began undressing in the darkness.
She didn’t bother folding her clothes before shoving them all into her bag before she crouched behind the safety of the bushes. Silently, she willed her body to begin changing — giving into the moon’s call to be in her fur.
It was a quick thing, far less painful than the first had ever been. Even now though, what little pain existed in the shifting of bones and sinew was a welcomed relief from the mundane existence she’d garnered in the city with her small job and small, lonely apartment.
The world around her came alive with scents and sights that she could not detect in her human flesh. Giving herself a shake, the wolf turned, bag forgotten, and began running again. She smelled trees close by and was drawn to the promise of some kind of hunt.
